The Beach

Breakup has come and is on its way out.  The sea ice (around here) has broken up, floated off, and melted.  There are large chunks of river ice and other protected waters that are in the process of floating by here and piling up in places for a time, but summer is here.  I rode down to the beach tonight and walked around for a while with my neighbor and her dog.  It was nice to hear the waves again and see the liquid water, but the world kind of shrinks when the ice melts.  You can't go as far.  It's hard to imagine when I look out across the water that not too long ago I was skiing on top of it!

This is Tele, chasing a frisbee onto a patch of snow left along the shore.

Of course, what drives all this is the sun, of which we have plenty right now.  Check out the current weather, etc. (sunlight info towards the bottom of the page).  The next picture shows the sun on the beach at about 9:00 PM.  Just so you know, it's low on the horizon, but it's not setting.  It won't go down for about another month or so.
